5.2 Health and safety issues
We are interested in joining a project proposal/consortium to apply to the call of “ERA-MIN Joint Transnational Call 2023”.
Our team could contribute to the consortium mainly on the biosafety assessment and health/safety concerns of raw materials. More specifically, as a partner of a consortium, we can add value in the following topic: Topic 5. Social sustainability in health, safety and public perception-5.2 Health and safety issues.
The main competences of our group are in vitro cell culture (both human and animal cells, e.g. skin, bone, liver, lung, breast, blood) and evaluation of cytotoxic, genotoxic and inflammatory potential of materials (assessment of cell viability, oxidative stress, mitochondrial function, induced apoptosis, DNA damage, gene expression and inflammation).
Since its beginning, University of Aveiro (UAVR) has evolved into one of the most dynamic and innovative universities in the country, considered one of the best universities of the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings for the world’s universities that are aged 50 years or under.
Presently the University has more than 15000 students distributed across 16 Academic Departments and 4 Polytechnic Schools that work together in an inter-disciplinary manner according to their academic and research affinities. Its organisation and matrix structure stimulate knowledge exchange overlapping different scientific fields, promoting a useful proximity between teaching and research.
Since 2019, UAVR is part of the ECIU University, together with other 12 research intensive universities, with a collective emphasis on innovation, creativity, and societal impact driving the development of a knowledge-based economy.
UAVR is a privileged partner for companies and other national and international organisations with which the University cooperates in numerous projects and for which it provides important services. During 2021, 664 national and international research and technology transfer projects have been active in UAVR, of which 51 funded by ERASMUS+ and 57 by Horizon 2020. The UAVR is the host institution of 10 ERC Grants and 1 ERA Chair, coordinates 2 FET Open and one TWINNING projects, among other relevant and strategic European projects.
Research projects are developed under the 20 research units hosted by UAVR in different scientific areas, all classified as very good or excellent in the last evaluation process promoted by the National Foundation for Science and Technology. 8 of these research units were labelled or integrate Associated Laboratories.
