National Research Center on Membrane Technologies
Although membrane systems are widely used in Turkey, there is no facility for the production of polymeric or ceramic membranes. As Turkey is one of the countries under water stress, technologies that provide alternative water sources such as water recovery and desalination will become very important in the near future. From a global perspective, membrane science and technology has recently gained much importance as the available water resources have started to deplete. Membrane production requires high technology, knowledge and experience. Membrane technology is not yet cheap enough for widespread use. Current costs in membrane technology will decrease with advances in membrane science. Low cost high technology is required for a clean future. In order to produce membranes in Turkey, develop modules and processes, provide opportunities to researchers working on membrane technologies, and contribute to global membrane science, With the support of the T.C. State Planning Organization and Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu, the National Membrane Technologies Research Center (MEM-TEK) project was started in 2010.
