and Project Coordinator - University Politehnica of Bucharest (UPB), Romania, is the largest technical university in Romania and among the largest in South-East Europe, with a 200-year history and an excellent tradition in scientific education and research. As a recent recognition for the quality of education and research, UPB was included among the first twelve "Research Universities" in Romania having an important scientific contribution materialized through numerous communications and publications internationally. According to SCOPUS database, the contribution of UPB to the flow of published articles is ~ 2000 articles/ year and over 10.000 citations/year. The total number of publications related to the UPB (according to the SCOPUS database) exceeds 25.000 articles and the number of citations attracted exceeds 85.000. Among the international programs that have allowed the institutional development of the UPB are the European programs POSCCE and POSDRU, FP5-7 and Horizon 2020; transnational programs such as ERA NET, EuroNanoMed, COST, AUF, DAAD, as well as national programs and projects with third parties. Through these several European-funded projects, and many other national projects, UPB research team gained a strong preliminary expertise on materials science. The reported results by the scientists from the PC’s team have demonstrated the PC ability to produce and to control the processing of different type of construction materials [64-67]. PC has a vast experience in the valorization of some industrial wastes, of the wastes resulted from demolishes (recycled concrete) in producing of binder materials and in derived composites (mortar, concrete). The team members obtained results with an advanced degree of novelty, concerning binders based on Portland cement, binders of slag alkaline activated or geo-polymers. The research activity within UPB involves the use of ultramodern equipment for materials synthesis and their characterization. Within this research infrastructure, modern analysis tools are integrated, some of them being assigned to the project. The infrastructure of UPB can provide morphological and structural characterization of micro/nanomaterials and structures, X-ray diffraction complex characterization, synthesis of oxide, organic, polymeric or metallic materials using unconventional methods and is detailed in http://erris.gov.ro/UPB-CASM-SIMONa, http://erris.gov.ro/CNMN---UPB and http://erris.gov.ro/CNpSA-UPB. UPB team will perform the compositional and structural analysis (XRD combined with Rietveld refinement), microstructure and morphology studies with SEM analysis of synthesized materials and commercial raw materials for cement or concrete and evaluation of cement pastes with biomineralization properties by several techniques (mechanical testing, DSC, XRD, SEM). Also, UPB as coordinator will lead all the management activities.
